Old Smithy Cottage is a traditional and cosy 18th-century Galloway stone cottage and as its name suggests was converted from the old Smithy. Nestled in a small hamlet in a rural location in the beautiful Nith Valley 8 miles from the county town of Dumfries. The area is a haven for those wishing to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this beautiful area. Old Smithy Cottage is warm and comfortable and a particular feature is the floor to ceiling patio doors in the living room where you can sit and relax enjoying the view, it really is delightful. On a cold winter day, the wood burner in the living room is a real treat.
Locally there is an abundance of things to do to keep all ages entertained including walking, cycling, golfing, fishing and birdwatching. Close by there are many lovely places to visit including Drumlanrig Castle and Gardens, Ellisland (once home to Robert Burns), farm parks and activity playgrounds to keep the kids entertained. Whilst in the area a drive out to the Galloway Forest Park, one of the darkest places in the UK, in fact the UK’s first Dark Sky Park, and is a must and makes a lovely day trip to explore. There is rugged coastline and seaside to visit along with quaint villages and towns such as Kippford, Sandyhills, Southerness and Kirkcudbright.
